The "Blooming Through Literacy Project" allows students to integrate reading, writing, researching, and critical thinking skills to botany, the study of plants.
This special STEM initiative allows students to have hands-on experiences while giving them an opportunity to hone their literacy skills. CSK scholars, Miracle Edwards and Makiyah Tolbert have gotten things off to a great start! They are becoming scientists and leaders, setting an example of excellence in research for their peers.

(June 13, 2025) The Indoor Garden Project was experimental. The students and I learned so much this year. These bell peppers grew with minimal care. Their healthy green color reveals we used the right fertilizer. We are looking forward to starting again next year.
My students and I are GRATEFUL for Donors Choose and Alison Smith for funding the "Blooming Through Literacy: An Indoor Garden Project. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! While this experience only lasted for a few months, my students will have this empowering knowledge forever!
