AP English Language and Composition

AP English Language and Composition is an introductory college-level course focused on rhetoric, nonfiction analysis, and evidence-based argument. The 3-hour and 15-minute exam consists of 45 multiple-choice questions (45%) and 3 free-response essays (55%).

Reading and analyzing non-fiction texts like speeches, essays, and articles.

Learning how writers use rhetoric, structure, and language to persuade audiences.

Writing your own clear, evidence-based arguments

End-of-Course Exam Structure

Section      I (1 Hour): 45 multiple-choice questions testing reading comprehension      and writing revision. 

Section      II (2 Hours, 15 Minutes): 3 essay prompts:

Synthesis  Essay: Combine multiple provided sources to defend a claim.

Rhetorical Analysis Essay: Analyze the choices an author makes in a non-fiction text.

Argument Essay: Create an evidence-based argument using your own knowledge
